Exercise is not every Manahawkin back pain or neck pain patient’s ’thing’. Manahawkin Chiropractic Center understands. Exercise is also so vital to our back and neck pain patient’s recovery and future prevention of the pain. We are with our Manahawkin chiropractic patients all along the way to get the most of the exercise effort so that it results in pain prevention and relief.


Neck pain sufferers know how pain may reduce their neck motion. Such neck pain patients were tested as to their cervical range of motion and pain intensity with a flexion-rotation test. They were then directed to do a 20-minutes cervical spine exercise session. Half of them were then additionally treated with manual therapy applied to the C0-C1 and C2-C3 cervical spine levels. Those who did the exercise program and received manual therapy managed significantly better in terms of range of motion, pain intensity reduction, and the flexion-rotation test. (1) Another study revealed that the optimal stretching time of cervical muscles in patients with chronic myofascial pain syndrome was 30 seconds as opposed to 15 or 60 seconds or no stretching. This allowed the best benefit to pain intensity reduction while minimizing any negative effects on neural function of the involved nerve roots and central nervous system. Incorporating exercise training into the multidisciplinary treatment of non-specific chronic low back pain does make sense. Such back pain affects so many people worldwide and is a primary source of disability. Proper exercise training transitions the back pain patient to self-management. Recently, researchers posed that pain intensity and disability - and even mental health issues in such back pain patients - were improved with choices like resistance and aerobic exercise while Pilates, resistance exercise, yoga, and stabilization exercise.
