Manahawkin Chiropractic Care for Spine and Related Musculoskeletal Pain
Pain makes us a bit self-centered instead of life-centered which is completely logical and logically universal. People globally suffer with pain, back pain, neck pain, musculoskeletal pain, much of which is spine-centered. Luckily, Manahawkin chiropractic care is locally accessible to help contain as well as ease spine-related pain.
GLOBAL IMPACT OF SPINE AND MUSCULOSKELETAL PAIN CONDITIONS
Data from a worldwide study that monitored spine pain (neck pain and low back pain) patients from 1990 to 2019 revealed that the “years lived with disabilities,” incidence, and prevalence of both conditions rose significantly. Globally, neck pain and low back pain were recorded as burdening public health significantly, especially as people age, being most problematic in middle and older aged folks. Data also pointed out that these two conditions were more common in women and middle-aged groups and more frequent in higher socioeconomic indexed countries. (1) Beyond low back pain, neck pain, rheumatoid arthritis, or osteoarthritis, the same Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 stated that “other musculoskeletal disorders” grew by 123.4% from 221 million to 494 million people from 1990 to 2019. With over 150 different conditions impacting bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and the spine under the umbrella of “other musculoskeletal disorders,” health loss including death and disability due to musculoskeletal disorders is predicted to keep growing. From 2020 to 2050, it is estimated to rise by 115% to 1060 million cases. More women are affected by 47.4% than men. The prevalence of these disorders topped out between 65 and 69 old for both men and women. (2) We at Manahawkin Chiropractic Center see all sorts of spine related musculoskeletal disorders in addition to back pain and neck pain. Studies like these motivate us to stay current with spine research to help you, our Manahawkin chiropractic patient, in the best possible way.
UNDERSTANDING STANDING AND BACK PAIN
Back pain and neck pain are definitely two of our most common painful spinal conditions at Manahawkin Chiropractic Center…and standing is a daily necessity! Everyone’s spine is a bit different. How we each stand is a little different…and that matters! A new study recorded bigger variations in lumbar lordosis (spinal curvature) like upright standing posture in a little more extension or more noticeable curvature like kyphosis may well have a bearing musculoskeletal response as far as spinal loading and trunk muscle force. (3) We urge our patients to think about good posture which can positively affect your actually having good posture including standing up straight.
UNDERSTANDING SITTING AND BACK PAIN
And sitting is another activity of daily living that we all do often without any thought (until pain forces us to think about it all the time!). In a new study, researchers wrote that unsupported sitting intensified intradiscal pressure by about 30% in comparison to upright standing. Intradiscal pressures were greater for sitting than standing when back angles were less than 20° and higher for standing than sitting when the angles were more than 20 degrees. Knowing about spinal responses like these are vital in the world of occupational health where lumbar musculoskeletal disorders are a big concern.
